Lisa Johnston Looks Forward to Receiving Her Opponent’s Support on Nov. 2nd

Overland Park, Kansas — October 12, 2010 – As the political ads criticizing voting records and personal behavior fill the air waves, Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Lisa Johnston released her second TV ad for the general election. In the ad, Johnston agrees with a statement made by her opponent, Jerry Moran, that strongly supports her candidacy.

Moran contended that “career politics is very damaging to the country”.

“I couldn’t agree more” said Lisa. “However, I am somewhat surprised that Congressman Moran is continuing to run for office after 21 years in politics if he truly believes career politics in damaging. A political career of more than two decades certainly makes him a career politician.”

“We need a fresh perspective in Washington. The founders of our great nation knew that government works best when citizen legislators from all walks of life have the opportunity to step forward to make a positive difference for their state and their nation. Congressman Moran has a law degree which is the most common background for sitting U.S. Senators. On the other hand, I started my career in education 18 years ago and have been both a teacher and college administrator. Education is very underrepresented in our political leadership which is troubling given that it is critically important to the future of our country. If we want to invigorate our leadership, we need a new type of leader. Sending the same type of people to Washington will get us the very same result.”

“We need leaders with integrity who tell Kansans what they really believe not crafty politicians who say whatever is convenient at the time. Perhaps the Congressman made this statement because he had been in Congress for two fewer years than his primary opponent, Mr. Tiahrt. The question is, would Mr. Moran stand by this statement today? If he does not, this calls into question any statement he has made. If an elected official says one thing today and the opposite tomorrow, how can Kansans know what he truly believes? If he does stand by the statement, it calls into question why he wants to pursue another six years in politics and extend his political career to 27 years.”

“Given that Congressman Moran has stated he feels career politics is problematic, I look forward to receiving his vote on November 2nd.”
